Overview:

A lovely Scandinavian family based between New York City and Europe is seeking an experienced Governess/Family Assistant to provide academic support to their 5-year-old daughter, Monday to Friday after school and during school holidays. During the mornings, while the child is at school, you will take on the role of Family Assistant, supporting the family with a variety of personal tasks which include booking travel, coordinating events, liaising with other household staff, overseeing small refurbishments, running errands, and grocery shopping.

It is important to the family that the person who joins them is warm, nurturing, and genuinely affectionate towards their daughter, while also maintaining firm boundaries and applying age-appropriate discipline when needed to encourage respectful behaviour and consistency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure seamless transitions, communication, and academic alignment between the child’s two schools.
  • In collaboration with the child’s school tutors, identify academic strengths and areas for improvement; design and deliver structured, bespoke extracurricular and holiday support programs accordingly.
  • Act as a positive role model for the child, consistently promoting values such as kindness, respect, curiosity, and resilience.
  • Foster a love of learning through creative, engaging, and age-appropriate activities that support school objectives and general development.
  • Encourage creative expression (the child loves the arts) through painting, drawing, arts and crafts, etc.
  • Plan and supervise enriching outings and play activities that support social and emotional development at each location.
  • Provide general personal assistance to the parents during school hours (e.g. scheduling, booking travel, managing household appointments, liaising with vendors or staff, running errands, event coordination).
  • Properly plan after-school lessons during school hours.
  • Maintain a high level of discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • Continue the work that has already been done with the child in teaching her boundaries and good manners while fostering a warm and loving relationship with her. The balance between these two sides is essential.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have dual EU/US citizenship for a September 2025 start, allowing the candidate to travel freely between both areas with the family. If this is not the case, the family could consider someone with an EU passport, but in this case the start date would be pushed to end of March 2026. US visa support can be provided.
  • Private, separate accommodation provided in New York City and EU.
  • Fluent English. Spanish or  Danish as a second language is a huge bonus.
  • BA degree (any subject; education/childcare-related preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a governess with HNW or UHNW families.
  • Confident multitasker able to balance governess and Family Assistant responsibilities.
